BASS LAKE — It’s not too late to register kids for the annual Bass Lake My*Tri set for Saturday, Sept. 10. The super fun triathlon is open to kids ages 5 – 17 and is hosted by Miller’s Landing Resort, offering the perfect outdoor mountain venue and challenging courses for all levels of young athletes. Late registration is taking place at Miller’s Landing on Sept. 9 from 5 – 6 p.m. for $35.

Now in its fourth year, event coordinators are anticipating over 100 young athletes will participate in the youth triathlon. Starting at 7:30 a.m., kids of all ages and athletic skill levels will swim, bike and run for fitness and for fun.

Each athlete participates in one of three race divisions designed to suit their abilities, from young athletes with training wheels to the seasoned athlete who love the competition.

The divisions include:

DASH – 50-yard Swim, 2-mile Bike, half-mile Run
SPRINT – 100-yard Swim, 4-mile Bike, 1-mile Run
ACE – 200-yard Swim, 8-mile Bike, 2-mile Run

“What I love about MY*Tri is the way it brings our community together, says Taylor Olney, Run Director. “It’s so inspiring to see sponsors, volunteers, spectators, parents, grandparents, and children join together with a common goal. Our goal is to provide a day at the beautiful Bass Lake promoting athletics, health and fun. We love watching the 5-year-old swimming with a life jacket and cycling with training wheels. We are so impressed with the children who overcome extra battles with asthma, diabetes, and autism. We are so excited to cheer on all the athletes who really push themselves and achieve their goals.”

In addition, MY*Tri has a crew of volunteers who encourage beginner athletes and, over the past two years,  volunteers have swam with the swimmers, tied shoes, buckled helmets, held bikes for kids, run alongside bikers and runners and cheered them on throughout the course, say organizers. Avid athletes and older kids have a challenging course designed for them, as well.

This event is made possible by community sponsors, many of whom have donated to the MY*Tri since its inaugural year. They are: Miller’s Landing Resort, Visit Yosemite Madera County, Sierra Automotive, Sierra Asset Management, California Jam Co, K&B Auto Parts, and Cornerstone Custom Construction, Inc.

Extra t-shirts may be available for purchase on race day.
